Opinion: It is no longer the duty of media in a democracy to inform citizens; it is now the duty of citizens in a democracy to inform themselves

The media has failed to fulfill its constitutional purpose.

Freedom of speech and freedom of the press was the basis for the first amendment. In early America, the job of the media was to better educate citizens so that those citizens would be able to accomplish their most important duty in America’s burgeoning democracy: to vote.
