Linda Ann Boelter (Hilt) - Age 74, passed away on Aug. 9, 2021. She lived in Kaukauna, where she enjoyed an active and joyful retirement following a long career as an elementary school teacher. Linda was born in Tomahawk on May 20, 1947, to Roger and Margaret Hilt. She and her five brothers and sisters grew up on a farm where she learned the importance of family and community. The Hilt farm house was a gathering place for family and friends.
After graduating from Tomahawk High School in 1965, Linda attended UW-Superior, earning her Bachelors of Education in 1969. She began her teaching career in the Appleton Area School District and put down roots in the Fox Valley area. Linda started a family in Kimberly and then moved to Kaukauna in 1985, raising her four children while also serving as a substitute teacher. She eventually took on a full-time position with Holy Spirit School (Kimberly/Darboy) where she finished her career. In more than 30 years of teaching Linda touched the lives of hundreds of students and parents, many of whom she kept in touch with, attending their plays, graduation parties or even weddings. Linda cared about people. As a teacher she was meticulous in planning classroom activities that were both effective and inspirational. She regularly worked extra hours ensuring her students got the best she had to offer, and served as a mentor to many new teachers over the years. Linda participated in local Al-Anon groups and was a supporter of persons in recovery for more than 20 years. She had a wonderful group of long-time friends with whom she shared countless hours of craft fairs, rummage sales and walks by the 1000 Islands Environmental Center. She also regularly organized gatherings of high school friends from her days in Tomahawk. Linda took the time to make everyone feel important, and did so with extraordinary kindness, compassion and empathy. Perhaps most of all, Linda was dedicated to her family, finding the most joy in supporting her parents, siblings, children, grandchildren and extended family with consistency and love. She was a child at heart, and poured her love of teaching into special projects for her grandchildren. She laughed easily and always managed to find humor in life.
Linda is survived by her children: Nichol Eiting, Paul Eiting (Emi), Katherine Vande Hey (Travis) and Michael Eiting (Bailey); grandchildren: Mason and Lily Vande Hey and Nora Eiting; siblings: Doug Hilt (Joni), Deborah Hilt, Gary Hilt (Terri), Joseph Hilt and brother-in-law: Randy Michal; and many cousins, nephews, nieces and in-laws. She is predeceased by parents: Roger and Margaret Hilt and sister: Denise Michal. A celebration of life memorial for Linda is scheduled for Oct. 10 in the Fox Valley area. Details on the memorial and donations in Linda’s name will be shared at a later date. If we could imagine her last words it would be to love and be kind to one another, laugh often, help your neighbors, forgive, say hello to people you pass at the grocery store, and live life to the fullest.
