Rose Zita Spierings

Rose Zita Spierings - Town of Vandenbroek - Age 101, died at her home on Monday, Aug. 9, 2021. She was born in Wrightstown on Oct. 18, 1919, to the late John and Bridget (Baeten) Van Dyke. Rose Zita     married George Spierings on June 15, 1943 at St. Paul Parish in Wrightstown. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2008. Rose Zita planted huge gardens every year that provided food for the family. George and Rose Zita enjoyed square dancing, bowling, their annual fishing trip to Minnesota, traveling throughout the United States, and being involved with the local 4-H Club. In 1980, George and Rose Zita left the farm and built their retirement home. She enjoyed baking and cooking, playing cards with the neighbor ladies, reading, doing word searches, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Christmas was a special time for Rose Zita. Her love of baking brought her the idea of making seven different kinds of cookies all made two weeks before Christmas. Each member of the family from baby to adult received their own bag of her delicious treats. She also remembered many friends at this time too. She carried on this tradition for many years until her health declined last year. Rose Zita is survived by her children: Dick (Holly) Spierings, Donna Dolan, Dave Spierings, and Deb (Scott) Elm; grandchildren: Travis (Heidi) and Cory (Danielle) Van De Hey, Mindi (Troy) Blake, Elliot Spierings, Anna (Dan) Juckem, Jim (Josie), Michael, and Rachel (Ron Sheldon) Spierings; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Jackson and Gracelyn Blake, Kaitlyn, Ethan, Taylor and Lauren Van De Hey, Philip and Lilli Hertel, Kelli and Kile Sullivan, Bryce, Jamison, Collin, Cole, Charlie and Rook Spierings, and Babygirl Sheldon (due in September). She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband: George, Rose Zita was preceded in death by her son-in-law: Jim Dolan; brothers: Ervin “Erv” (Jane), Edward “Bud” (Betty), Lloyd (Ruth) , Elmer (Helen) and Sylvester “Ves” (Carol) Van Dyke; father and mother-in-law: John and Anna (Evers) Spierings; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Henry (Edna), Joe (Gertrude) and Peter Spierings, Liz (Pete) Micke, Delia (Harry) Van Roy, and Martha (Robert) Kerry.
