Kimberly school board officially makes masks optional in 2021-22


Andrew Hanlon photo/An almost even number of people appealing for mandatory masking and mask choice spoke to the Kimberly school board last week at Kimberly High School. The board ultimately votes to make masks optional for grades 4K-6 and encouraged for grades 7-12 if unvaccinated.
A meeting that saw bouts of raised voices, arguing, and passionate speeches from community members ended with a 5-2 vote by the Kimberly Area School District Board of Education to start the 2021-22 school year with optional masking.
