Richard Young

Richard Young “Dick” - Sherwood - Age 82, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022. Dick was born on Aug. 10, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of the late Albert and Florence (Krenz) Selichnow and grew up in Davenport, Iowa. After graduating high school, Dick joined the Marines and played three years on the Hawaii Marines baseball team, where he then signed a contract with the San Francisco Giants and played for a number of years. Living in California for most of his adult life and then moving to Sherwood in 2005, Dick could almost always be found outside soaking up the sun, playing and watching golf, watching baseball, cheering on the Packers, and always being known as one of the most social guys in town, no matter where he lived. Dick is survived by his children: Rhonda (Pete) Macca, Carrie (Chad) Wittmann, Richard Young and Shannon (Matt) Schaefer. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister: Alberta (George) Birdsell and many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his wife: Helen (Abbott) Young and brothers: Robert and William Young. Funeral services were held Jan. 24 at the Kessler Funeral Home, Neenah with Pastor Steven Nichols officiating. Burial at St. Margaret Cemetery in Neenah with full military honors were performed by the Neenah-Menasha Funeral Honor’s Team. For online condolences, please visit: www.kesslerfh.com.
