Elaine Smits

Elaine Clara Smits - Kimberly - Age 96, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Elaine was born on May 7, 1926, the daughter of the late George and Alma (Bock) Reetz and was a graduate of Appleton High School, Class of 1944. She married the love of her life, Paul, on Oct. 19, 1946, at St. Joseph in Appleton. Elaine worked at Kimberly Pharmacy, was an avid reader with a book always by her side, enjoyed old movies, Lawrence Welk, word search books, and watching sports with Paul. She always looked forward to the daily phone calls from her daughter and son and enjoyed getting chocolate cookies from her cousin Toots. (She also did not mind the occasional glass of chardonnay and good chocolate candy). All who knew her knew that her favorite season was Christmas. Survivors include her children: David (Jayne) Smits and Debra (Earl) Schroeder; her grandchildren: Neil (Kristy) Smits, Todd (Sarah) Smits, Kevin (Marissa) Smits, Laura Schroeder (fiancé, Russ), Lisa (Ken) Krause, and Eric Schroeder. Her great-grandchildren: Nolan, Carson, Porter, Beckett, Reid, Claire, Abram, Vincent, Trevor (fiancée Cali), Rebecca, Brooklyn and Karma. Other survivors include her step-sister and dear friend Shirley Frank, and good friends Larry and Margaret Artz. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul Smits and his parents, step-mother Adela, brother Harold, and in-laws Don Frank, Adele Smits, James (Joan) Smits. The funeral liturgy for Elaine will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25 (TODAY), at Holy Spirit Parish, located at 600 E. Kimberly Ave. in Kimberly, with Fr. Carl Schmitt officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. The family would like to offer their thanks to Dr. Block and the nurses and caregiver staff at Renaissance Assisted Living, as well as ThedaCare at Home Hospice. We will never forget your kindness.
