Col. Gerald Wyngaard

Col. Gerald Wyngaard - “Jerry” - Amelia, Va. - U.S. Air Force Retired, passed away on Feb. 17, 2022, in the presence of his loving family. Jerry was an outstanding athlete at Kimberly High School and received an assignment and football scholarship to the Air Force Academy. He proudly served as an officer in the Air Force for 27 years. During those years Jerry flew cargo planes to Viet Nam. Jerry later taught higher math at the Academy and was an assistant coach with the Falcon football team. Upon retirement, he began teaching math and coaching high school football. He carried his teaching to Riverside Regional Jail for several years in prison ministry. After earning a degree in Theology at Loyola University, he completed studies to become a Catholic Deacon. He will be remembered for his endless enthusiasm and generous heart. He is survived by his wife: Candy Wyngaard; five children, daughters: April and her husband: Michael, Rebecca and her husband: Tucker; sons: Tod and his wife: Kim, David and his wife: Thelma, and Peter and his wife: Patty. Jerry was actively involved with his 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Jack Wyngaard, Judy Ebert, and Joe Wyngaard. Friends, family and classmates are invited to celebrate Jerry’s life at Sunset Park (Shelter #1) on Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 1 p.m. Please bring lawn chairs for your convenience.
