"Digger"

Daniel W. Van Dyn Hoven - “Digger” -Freedom - Age 81, passed away unexpectedly surrounded by his family on Aug. 13, 2024. He was born on Jan. 24, 1943, son of the late Henry and Florence (Romenesko) Van Dyn Hoven. He married Mary Alice Daul on May 1, 1965. Digger and Mary owned and operated Van Dyn Hoven Studio for many years. He was able to capture so many wonderful moments for families all around the Valley. He enjoyed taking pictures as if they were his own family. Digger always made sure his guests felt welcome and that they never left thirsty. He loved spending time at the cottage on Surprise Lake. He loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends and also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino. Digger and Mary were also able to enjoy 27 years of friendships in Florida during the winter months. Digger’s kind and generous spirit will be truly missed. Digger is survived by his sons: Rick (fiancé Colleen Murphy) Van Dyn Hoven and Ross (Paula) Van Dyn Hoven; grandchildren: Bill (Jenn), Dan, Julie, Hank (Ali) and Chad Van Dyn Hoven; great grandchildren: Houston, Bryan and Aliina; a brother: Al Van Dyn Hoven; in-laws: Alicia Van Dyn Hoven, Jan (Glenn) Sell, Kristy (Mike) Woulf, Floyd Van Camp and Pat Brault; dear friends: Phil and Louise Austin and Beaver and Vionne Greiner; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Digger was preceded in death by the love of his life: Mary Alice Van Dyn Hoven; parents: Henry and Florence Van Dyn Hoven; siblings: Bob (Arlene), Cecilia, Ray (Margaret Ann), Ken and Carl Van Dyn Hoven; in-laws: Joan Van Camp and Kathy Brault; mother and father-in-law: Joseph and Alice Daul. Memorial services will be held at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, W2037 County Road S, Freedom, with Msgr. Jim Vanden Hogen officiating.
