Gerald B. Nytes - Menasha Age 89, died surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born in Appleton on March 6, 1935, to the late Ben and Lucy (Stemper) Nytes. Jerry married Catherine Stier on May 17, 1958, at St. Patrick Parish in Menasha. Together, they lived on Lake Winnebago for 44 years. Jerry retired from Thilmany after 43 years of service. Following his retirement, he kept fit as a member of the YMCA for many years. An Eagle Scout, Jerry was active in scouting through the years with troops 27 and 104. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and an active member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, where he performed honors at many military funerals. Jerry was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish and sang in the choirs at both St. Aloysius and St. Mary. Jerry is survived by his wife of 66 years: Catherine (Cacky); children: Daniel (Anja Pekkarinen), Wauwatosa; David (Laurie), Kaukauna; and Dale (Tiffany), Neenah; grandchildren: Cassandra Nytes, M.D., Brianna Nytes, and Anna Pekkarinen; Ben and Abby Nytes; and Landon Nytes; former daughter-in-law: Taina Nytes; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Pete (Sue) Stier, Barbara Krupka, and James Gillitzer. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister: LaVerne (Walter) Stahl; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Joseph (Tilly) Stier, Carol (Alice Carol) Maher, Joan Gillitzer, Thomas Stier, Dennis Krupka, Kenneth (Ruth) Stier, Robert (Kathy) Stier, and Richard Stier. Visitation will be held Sept. 18 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH – ST. MARY CHURCH (119 W. 7th Street, Kaukauna) from 9-10:45 a.m. His funeral Mass, officiated by the Rev. Luke Ferris, will follow at 11 a.m. Military honors, conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, will be held after Mass. Committal St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna.
