Janis Vanden Heuvel

Janis Vanden Heuvel Age 77. On March 9, 2025, the world lost a very kind soul. Janis Vanden Heuvel (Newman), passed away at Comforts of Home after bravely battling Alzheimer’s. At her side was her sister, Lois. Jan was born to M. Wallace and Gertrude Newman in Eau Claire. She was born on Oct. 31, 1947, (a birth date she shared with her brother John) and was lovingly called our favorite “witch.” Jan received her teaching degree and moved to Kaukauna to begin her career at Kaukauna High School. She taught there her entire career. She met her best friend and husband, Dave, and married him on July 14, 1978. Dave would look at her and tell her she was the most beautiful woman in the world, never failed to bring a smile. She called Sue (Dave’s) sister, her “other sister,” never failed to bring a smile. All nieces and nephews held a special place in her heart and were treasured. Jan joined Dave in his love of the “Great Up North” and they spent as much time as possible at their cottage. There, Jan would play in her flowers, feed the birds, read and take walks. She never met a puzzle she didn’t like. Her gentle nature, loyalty and empathy for others was much appreciated by all who knew her. Her happiness was time spent with Dave, family and nature. We will miss you. Jan is survived by brothers: Ed (Mari Ann), John Newman; sister: Lois (Bob) Stolp; sisters-in-law: Jackie Newman, Susan Vanden Heuvel (Steve Magolski); brothers-in-law: Don Weghorn, Joseph (Karen) Vanden Heuvel, Rick (Jean) Vanden Heuvel, Jay (Kathy) Vanden Heuvel; and special friends: Gene and Linda Collins, Tom and Kay Jakl, Jan and Erv Keough along with beloved pet: Toby. She was preceded in death by her husband: Dave; brothers: James and Richard Newman; and sister: Mary (Chub) Weghorn. Arrangements for Jan are pending.
