Plans for potential hotel and apartment complex presented to Kaukauna Plan Commission

Abacus Architects illustrations/Plans for a five-story, 101-unit apartment complex were unvield at last week’s Kaukauna Planning Commission meeting for the corner of Catherine Street and East Wisconsin Avenue. That adds to the previously reported 67-room Sleep Inn hotel at 222 Lawe St. Developers still have many hoops to jump through to get the proposal approved by the city’s common council. The building would be located adjacent to the city’s painted mural along Catherine Street.
A project that will change the look of Downtown Kaukauna continues to work its way through city committees, with the Kaukauna Planning Commission approving the preliminary site plan on Thursday evening.

Hotel passes plan commission but driveways get more discussion

City of Kaukauna photo/One of the issues with Kaukauna’s allowance of a driveway on the side of a garage is that a recreational vehicle could be parked on the side of a neighboring house, with noise from that activity just eight feet away from a neighbor potentially trying to sleep.
With little discussion, a request for a special exception use to construct and operate a 67-room, three story hotel at 222 Lawe St. passed the Kaukauna Plan Commission on Thursday afternoon.

When the Kaukauna lift bridge is operational later this summer, boaters can go from the Rapid Croche dam between Kaukauna and Wrightstown all the way to Menasha through the lock system.
Progress continues to be made on reopening the Fox Locks system from Green Bay to Lake Winnebago. This summer, five more locks in Kaukauna will be open for boat traffic once the Catherine Street Lift Bridge in Kaukauna is fully repaired.
