Kimberly school board officially makes masks optional in 2021-22


Andrew Hanlon photo/An almost even number of people appealing for mandatory masking and mask choice spoke to the Kimberly school board last week at Kimberly High School. The board ultimately votes to make masks optional for grades 4K-6 and encouraged for grades 7-12 if unvaccinated.
A meeting that saw bouts of raised voices, arguing, and passionate speeches from community members ended with a 5-2 vote by the Kimberly Area School District Board of Education to start the 2021-22 school year with optional masking.

Kaukauna students can go unmasked to start school year

Most of the people at last week’s Kaukauna board of education meeting went home happy after the board voted 7-0 to approve the district’s “Return to School Take Force” recommendation to largely return to pre-pandemic conditions when school reopens on Sept. 1.

Kaukauna school board planning to take action on masks Aug. 9

With rising enrollments in 5K at Dr. H.B. Tanner Elementary School in Kaukauna, the board of education approved a one-year limited term position at last week’s meeting.

Kaukauna school board to make decision on face coverings at Aug. 9 meeting

The Kaukauna Area School District is moving ahead to hopefully make face coverings optional when school opens in September.
Superintendent Mark Duer-waechter said the district task force continues to meet, with three subcommittees — elementary, middle, and high school — working that will come together at some point.

Little Chute School Board approves program for fifth-grade girls

Girls on the Run, an empowerment and physical activity program for fifth-grade girls, was approved as a pilot club for the coming school year by the Little Chute School Board last week.
