Kaukauna American Legion baseball team advances to Class AA State Tournament

After winning three straight games at home last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the Kaukauna Class AA American Legion team won a state regional to advance to the 2021 American Legion State Tournament.
The state tournament begins this Friday and runs through Aug. 3.

Kaukauna softball batting cages now bear Jellish’s name


Submitted photo/The Kaukauna softball batting cages were recently re-branded The Jim Jellish Hitting Center. Jellish has been a staple in the Ghosts’ program, fittingly in helping girls improve their skills at the plate.
Jim Jellish joined the Kaukauna softball program when now-head coach Tim Roehrig took over around 2000. He was selected by the Milwaukee Braves in the 1960 MLB Draft, so, as he said, “I know a little bit about the game, doesn’t matter if it’s baseball or softball.”

Kuske, Frazer, Verstegen named to 2020-21 WFCA All-State Teams

Kaukauna offensive lineman Brennan Kuske and Kimberly running back Caleb Frazer were both named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-State Team for the 2020-21 season.
Little Chute linebacker Ryan Verstegen was named honorable mention on the small-school roster.

Lamers, Gaber named 2021 Legion All-Stars

Little Chute’s Nolan Lamers and Kaukauna’s Cody Gaber were both selected to play in the 2021 Legion All-Star Game at American Family Field in Milwaukee, home of the Brewers, on Aug. 8.
2021 marked the 65th season for American Legion Baseball in Wisconsin. More than 220 teams participated this year.

Wyngaards end 23 years of grandchildren in sports


Marilyn and Dick Wyngaard with their youngest grandson, Carson, at the state track meet after he ended his high school career and they ended 23 years of watching grandchildren compete for Little Chute.
It’s a good thing Marilyn and Dick Wyngaard like high school sports. 
If there’s a Little Chute High School athletic event, there’s a good chance they are in the crowd.

Three Mustangs named to NEC all-conference softball teams

Despite having a rough year in terms of record, Little Chute had three softball players named to the all-North Eastern Conference teams for 2021.
Utility player Madelyn Birling was named to the NEC second team, while outfielder Gabby Brown and utility player Abby Robbins were each named to the honorable mention squad.

Alyssa Hutcherson, Jessica Wilson, Ella Pahl, Drew Robinson, Riley Huss, Gavin Fritsch, Carson Wyngaard and the Mustang boys’ 4x800-meter relay team (Casey DeBoth, Huss, Caleb Mostek, Mason Genke) were all named first-team all-North Eastern Conference for the 2021 spring season.
