Bernard Nelson

Bernard Nelson - "Bud" - Age 72, died on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, after a short illness. He was born on July 28, 1950, to Louis and Evelyn Nelson. Bud was a man of many talents and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He began his working career as a mechanic at Van Hoof Automotive in Kaukauna. Bud then became a police officer for the Kaukauna Police Department in January 1972 and retired as a Sergeant in March 2006. During his retirement he was an avid outdoorsman and loved to spend time in the woods hunting. He also enjoyed fishing and in addition to fishing local waters, took annual fishing trips with good friends to Lake Erie. Bud had a big heart and loved animals of all kinds. Bud was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Evelyn Nelson. He is survived by sisters: Bonnie (Dennis) Hietpas and Sue (Butch) Vander Velden; nieces and nephews: Keith, Justi and Kip Vander Velden and Bob and Shannon Hietpas. He will be sadly missed by family and his many friends. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Online condolences may be left at Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Funeral Home, Kaukauna.
