Mary Frances Trettin - Kaukauna - Age 85, passed away on Monday, Sept. 12, 2023, at ThedaCare Medical Center, Appleton. She was born on May 31, 1938, in Neenah, the daughter of Gordon and Frances (Cheeseman) Albert. Mary graduated from Neenah High School with the Class of 1956 and attended Oshkosh College from 1956 to 1958. She was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Trettin on June 25, 1960, at the Methodist Church in Neenah. Mary worked for Sunray Mid-Continent Oil Company in Tulsa, Okla., from October of 1960 to March 1962. She was then employed part time as a church secretary from September of 1973 until May of 2005, working for Peace United Methodist Church in Kaukauna, Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Appleton, and Zion United Methodist Church in Forest Junction. She worked for 10 different pastors during those years. Mary was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Kaukauna and served on various committees. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, sang in the choir, and directed the handbell choir for 12 years. She was a member of the local United Methodist Women unit, held various offices over the years for the Wisconsin Conference UMW, was on the District Nominating Committee, and served as district president for four years. Mary enjoyed counted cross-stitching, knitting, completing puzzles, and reading. She loved to go to rummage sales and make pound cake for every family gathering. Mary had a fondness for horses and will be remembered most by her grandchildren as Grandma Cookies. Mary is survived by four children: James (Carol) Trettin, Deb (Michael) Schultz, Scott (Shellie) Trettin, and Diane (John Lambert) Beach; seven grandchildren: Alex (Bridget), Tony, April (fiancé Tony Clark), and Abbi Beach; Justin Hartjes, Jaiden and Kaleb Trettin; a sister: Virginia Cramer; a brother-in-law: Phil Wilms; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; her parents; sisters: Clara (William) Bastian and Cynthia Wilms; and two brothers-in-law: Hal Cramer and Kenneth (Janis) Trettin. A memorial service was held Sept. 16 at Peace United Methodist Church, Kaukauna. Memorial contributions are appreciated to Peace United Methodist Church, Kaukauna, or United Women in Faith. Mary’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Aspire Senior Living, Kimberly, as well as the staff at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton for their kindness, compassion and care.
