Doris Ann Dolan - Combined Locks - Age 87, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton. She was born on July 18, 1937, in Combined Locks, daughter of the late Arthur and Johanna (Wulterkens) Vander Heiden. She was married to Tom Dolan, who preceded her in death in 2009. Doris worked as the secretary at the St. Paul Catholic Church Rectory for many years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards -- especially cribbage! She also played sheepshead with her women’s card club that met every week for 55 years. Doris loved to travel. She visited her daughters in Alaska and California, took a Hawaiian Islands cruise, and spent many winters in Florida with Tom visiting family and friends. Doris will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her fun-loving energy that she always brought to the party. She will be sadly missed by her children: Tim (Norma) Peerenboom, Michael (Julie) Peerenboom, Paula (Paul) Grenier, and Jennifer (Steve) Chamberlain; grandchildren: Ally (David) Tanzer, Johanna (Aaron) Staniak, Hailey (Paul) Mirkes, Paige (Will) Mader, Chet (Julie) Peerenboom, Misa Grenier, Justys Grenier, Perla Grenier, Charlie Chamberlain, Everett Chamberlain; great-grandchildren: Hugh Staniak, Caleb Peerenboom; sisters: Janet Verbeten, Barb Vander Heiden; Tom’s children: Pat (Debbie) Dolan, Sean (Christine) Dolan, Maureen (Chris) Stoffel, Thomas Schuelke (Colleen’s husband), Eileen Dolan, Shannon (Kevin) Pomeroy. In addition to her parents and her husband: Tom, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Carol Stuyvenberg and Laurie Vander Velden; brothers-in-law: Jeff Vander Velden, Dick Verbeten, Sheldon Haase and Gene Stuyvenberg; a grandchild: Kailey May Peerenboom; and Tom’s children: Dennis Dolan, Kevin (Michelle) Dolan, Colleen Schuelke, Mary Dolan and Theresa Dolan. The funeral Mass for Doris will be held on Friday, Jan. 3, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church (410 Wallace St. Combined Locks). Friends and family will gather at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of Mass. I am standing on the seashore; a ship spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the ocean. I stand watching her until she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says, “She is gone.” Gone where? The lost sight is in me, not in her. Just at the moment when someone says she is gone there are others watching her coming. Other voices take up the glad shout, “Here she comes”… and that is dying.
