Arthur J. Promer
Hemet, Calif.
Age 95, was the oldest of five sons born to Herman and Mary (DeBruin) Promer. He attended Holy Cross School in Kaukauna, then as a young adult moved to Lansing, Mich., where he met his future wife Mildred (Leach). They were married on April 6, 1932, and were blessed with three children.
Art became an accomplished outboard motor boat racer and received many awards. He raced for several years until a serious boating accident ended his racing career. Art was also an accomplished businessman. He established and was the proud owner of Promer Heating Service until moving with his family to Bellflower, Calif., in 1958. After an attempt at retirement left him restless, he went to work for a short time at May Company in their fishing and hunting department. In 1962, he once again decided to go back into business for himself and established Promer Heating and Plumbing in Long Beach, Calif.
Art and his wife, Millie, both shared a passion for traveling, visiting family and friends across the country, and treasure hunting for Early American antiques. Even though they traveled up to four months a year, Art's business continued to flourish. After permanently retiring in the mid-1970's Art and Millie traveled more extensively while Art enjoyed his hobby of collecting and restoring antiques.

Shirley married David Andres July 25, 1953. Mrs. Andres was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. Shirley still enjoyed visits to the cottage, the casino and going out to eat. Fridays at home were spent eating fish and playing cards. It was not unusual to see her following the football and baseball games to see how "her numbers" were doing. She made weekly trips to buy scratch off tickets for herself and her neighbors. Special neighbors, Gino and Esther Roy, traded everything from baked goods to lawn cutting. Shirley did well throughout her chemo and radiation treatments, worrying more about when she could get back up north, than any pain or side effects. She had many friends at Pickerel and Crane lakes where she and Dave have had cottages their entire lives.
