Hietpas unanimous selection in Valley 8

Little Chute senior midfielder Marc Hietpas (pictured) was voted by the Valley 8 Conference coaches as a unanimous selection to the all-conference team.
Fellow seniors Max Sorenson, a goalkeeper, and defender Pete VandeHey were named to the second team alsong with junior defender Andrew Schabach.
Three more of coach Jack Coffey's seniors, Wes Mincks, Willie Nickols and Trent Woelfel, were named as honorable mention selections.

Berghuis named FVA defensive player of the year

Kaukauna High School senior Mark Berghuis (pictured) has been named the Fox Valley Association's defensive player of the year in football.
Kimberly senior Todd Doering was named the defensive back of the year.
Berghuis was named to the first team as a linebacker and Doering as a safety.
Other first team performers were Kimberly junior tackle Ben Storm, Kimberly senior running back Matt Klipstine, Kaukauna junior cornerback Jesse Vandenberg and Kimberly kicker Pete Nilson.
The Ghosts and Papermakers both had two players on the second team, while Kaukauna had eight honorable mention selections and Kimberly had three.

Verstegen two-way first team selection for Little Chute

Little Chute senior Cale Verstegen's name is all over the Valley 8 Conference's football all-conference list.
Verstegen (pictured), was a first team running back and a first team defensive back. He also earned all-conference honors as a punter.
Senior teammate Nick Weyenberg earned first team honors as a linebacker.
On the second team were Alex Ryba, Tim McMahon, Jim Hungerford and Danny Van Groll.
Honorable mention honors went to Kurt Schommer, Mark Frassetto, Tim McMahon, Charlie Van Handel and Dave Poppe. 
Two Xavier players from the area also made the team. Senior Lee Weiland was a irst team wide receiver and was also a first team defensive back. Fellow senior Ryan Van Zeeland was a first team offensive lineman. Two FVL players from the area also made the squad: Jake Reisner and Tom Arndt.

Zuleger named Valley 8 Player of the Year

Little Chute senior Melissa Zuleger (pictured) has been named the Valley 8 Conference's Player of the Year for girls volleyball.
Zuleger also earned unanimous first team all-conference honors as a middle hitter.
"Melissa really worked hard this season to become a student of the game," said Little Chute head coach Anna Maass.
"She became able to recognize other team's defensive positions making her able to get kills with different shots."
Zuleger also became versatile with hitting the slide, the one ball, a cut back one ball, and had a variety of strategic kills enabling her to finish the season with a hitting percentage of .359 according to Maass.
"This is phenomenal considering other teams knew we were going to set her as much as possible and they were still unable to stop her," Maass added. Zuleger finished the season with 371 kills and 122 blocks.
Xavier outside hitter Lizzie Machurick, a sophomore from Little Chute, was named to the second team.
Receiving honorable mention was Megan Merson, Nicole Wyngaard and Kelly Van Gompel from Little Chute and Rachel Hermus, a Xavier student from Little Chute.

Three seniors and one junior have been named to the Fox Valley Association's all-conference girls golf team.

Brittnacher named Valley 8 runner of the year

Heidi Brittnacher, a Xavier student and Kaukauna resident (pictured), has been named the Valley 8 Conference's girls runner of the year as the result of her performance at the Valley 8 Conference cross country meet this fall.
Brittnacher, a sophomore, won the meet and also earned first team all-conference honors along with Little Chute's Kelly Van Dyn Hoven, Samantha Janssen and Claire Janssen.
Xavier students Joy Willenbrink of Kimberly, along with Anna Johnson of Kaukauna, earned second team honors.
Amy Bons and Sadie Kloehn of Little Chute earned honorable mention honors as did Xavier's Katie and Angie Ebben of Kaukauna.

Kimberly senior defender Keegan Elmer (pictured) was the only boys soccer player from Kimberly or Kaukauna to be named to the Fox Valley Association's first team all-conference squad.

Wardecke named FVA co-swimmer of the year

Kimberly High School sophomore Sarah Wardecke has been named one of three swimmers of the year in the Fox Valley Association this season.

Swimming for the Appleton West/Kimberly team, Wardecke was first team all-conference in the 200 meter freestyle relay, the 200 individual medley and the 100 meter breast stroke.

Her sister Laura (pictured), a freshman, was named to the first team for the 200 meter freestyle relay and the medley relay.

Bethany Matula was named first team in the 200 meter freestyle relay and the medley relay.
