State Representative Jim Steineke (R- Kaukauna) honored late Vandenbroek-Kaukauna firefighter Stephen M. Smith from the floor of the state Assembly when the body convened for business on Wednesday. Smith passed away in December 2021 after 28 years of service to the department.
Jexi’s Restaurant is moving from South Oneida Street in Appleton to the former Kaukauna Family Restaurant building at 1011 Crooks Ave. in Kaukauna. Among their menu items are breakfast, tacos, hamburgers, and Venezuelan Arepas.
The Combined Locks Village Board accepted the bid in the amount of $322,775.55 from Donald Hietpas & Sons, Inc. for the 2022 water main construction project on Janssen Street and Buchanan Road.
Ten bids were received on the project ranging up to $361,722. Hietpas & Sons were the low bidder.
For a few moments at the Feb. 14 edition of the Sherwood Village Board meeting, it seemed all 423 residents who signed a recent legislative initiative petition were attending the meeting, still technically closed to the public because of COVID-19 lockdown.
The Kimberly Village Board awarded the contract for a streets and parks departments facility needs study to SEH (Short Elliot Hendrickson Inc.) at a cost of $9,998.
The combination of an unpredictable production window plus the increased need for ambulance coverage spurred the Kaukauna Fire Department to request approval of an immediate purchase of a used ambulance this year.
District Director Brian Helminger reported growth is continuing with connections to the Heart of the Valley Metropolitan Sewerage District. Last year there were eight sewer extension approvals, covering 202 acres, which means about 313 additional residential lots and about 769 additional people will be served by the district.
While the Heart of the Valley Metropolitan Sewerage District leaders are planning for a multi-million dollar interceptor rehabilitation project to be done in 2023, they are looking even further ahead.
The cold weather has been good for one Kaukauna area project. That is the valued crust formation at the Red Hills Landfill site managed by Ahlstrom-Munksjo officials.

Jets Pizza received a $43,280 loan from the Village of Little Chute for its façade improvement project that carries an estimated total price tag of just more than $73,350.
The prospect of a development getting two sources of village funding for their Little Chute projects may soon change.
