The Little Chute girls were firing on all cylinders midway through the first half of Thursday night’s home game against Marinette. Unfortunately, a 17-12 halftime advantage turned into 26-19 deficit with 4:25 to play.
The Little Chute boys kicked off their 2021-22 season with a non-conference road game at West De Pere, which turned into a hard-to-handle three-point loss. The Mustangs came back three nights later and opened North Eastern Conference play in a game at Clintonville, but their offense was held in check in a 59-40 loss to the Truckers.
Andrew Hanlon photo/Kaukauna’s Alana Zarneke led the way in the Ghosts’ two wins last week, scoring 26 points in Friday night’s win over Appleton North and 17 more in last Tuesday night’s win over Appleton West.
The Kaukauna girls came away with two wins last week, both of the Fox Valley Association variety, as the Ghosts moved to 3-1 overall on the season and began their conference slate 2-0.
Kaukauna linebacker Will Campbell, who was last month named the John Anderson Award winner as the top senior linebacker in Wisconsin, has now been named a unanimous member of the 2021 AP All-State Team.
Teammate Gavin Lahm joins Campbell as a First-Team All-State place kicker.

The Jon Murphy era in Kimberly got off to a good start Friday night as the Papermakers travelled to Hortonville and blew out the Polar Bears 88-58.
Kimberly led 46-33 at halftime and didn’t let up, outscoring Hortonville 42-25 in the second.

The last of the famous football playing Giordanas played his last game in the orange and black, and somewhat of an era has ended at Kaukauna.
It took until January for the Mustang girls to win their first game last year, but Little Chute cleared that hurdle in the second game of the season with a 26-25 road win at Waupaca last Tuesday night.
