A corner three by Kade Van Asten in the closing seconds of the first half of last Monday night’s game between the Little Chute boys and Luxemburg-Casco gave the Mustangs a 22-19 halftime lead.
Coming off two wins and the team getting healthier, the Kaukauna boys basketball team was hoping for a good outcome returning to Fox Valley Association play when it hosted Oshkosh North on Tuesday but the result was much the same, with the Ghosts falling 87-76 to Oshkosh North, leaving the team with a 1-5 FVA record (4-6 overall).
The offense came fast and furious in the second half of last Tuesday night’s game between the Kimberly boys and the Neenah Rockets — ranked No. 4 in the state in Division 1 in the latest WisSports coaches’ poll — but a late tip-in by Neenah’s Eli Schmidt was the dagger as the Rockets pulled out a 76-74 win at Ron Einerson Fieldhouse.
Junior wrestler Greyson Clark led the Kaukauna High School wrestling team with a championship at 138 pounds at the annual Cheesehead Invitational on Friday and Saturday at KHS.
Simley, Minn. won the tournament with 642.5 points. The Galloping Ghosts were the top finisher among Wisconsin teams with 454 points.
After a forced cancellation in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Cheesehead Wrestling Tournament — which brings in teams from all across the country — returns to Kaukauna for 2022.
This year will be the 22nd Cheesehead invitational. The tournament is set for Friday and Saturday at Kaukauna High School.

BROOKFIELD — The Kimberly girls basketball team traveled to Brookfield for a post-Christmas tournament, and after a tight loss to Pewaukee in the opener responded with a 27-point drubbing of the host Lancers.
The Fox Cities Stars boys hockey team played three games in three nights Dec. 28-30, but scored only two total goals as the team dropped to 1-11 on the year.

WINONA — The Lewiston Auto Holiday Basketball Classic at Winona State University was kind to the Kaukauna Ghosts, winning two games after getting healthy, allowing the boys to break a four-game skid.
Kaukauna handled Winona, Minn. 92-69 on Dec. 28, and came back the next night with a 65-63 win over Worthington, Minn.
